The small San Marcello centre took the name from the Saint and Popo that at the beginning of the IV Century sent to Jesi the Bishop and evangelist S. Settimio Proto. As a settlement Benedictine monastic centre towards the one thousand year, San Marcello became a castle in 1234, when 129 families arrived from Jesi to populate it. San Marcello, destroyed towards the end of the XII Century, was rebuilt in 1429 and by the end of the XVI Century got administrative autonomy from Jesi, becoming castle of the contado.

Of the ancient Castle it remains today the rectangular city wall shape almost regular, slope and in origin provided of bracket and towers. The Primo Ferrari Theatre was realized by the engineer Middle Ernesto of Monte San Vito between 1870-1871. A stroke of the wall rises in the imminent building structure and presents in the inside, for its reduced dimension an U installation, presenting itself, therefore, like a series of arcades superimposed articulated from small pillars in wood.
