Montemarciano Theatre’s origins date back to 1798, probably made out of pre-existing premises. In a council session in 1884 Eng. Giambattista Marotti’s  project for the reconstruction of the "new theater", in the area of the old one, to be demolish, was approved unanimously. Works began on August 15th, 1886 and were finished around one year later. In its new appearance, the theatre assiduously worked with different kind of performances up to 1970, when the earthquake that devastated Ancon made it unfit for use requiring a significant restoration. On May 2nd, 1985, the Vittorio Alfieri Theatre was inaugurated in its definitive form: two tiers of boxes, in an horseshoe disposition, with decorations in the stalls by Buratti (Ancon) and in the curtain by Alberici (Rome).
