Pergolesi and Spontini: the rediscovery PDF Stampa E-mail

An institution dedicated to the valorisation of the Italian musical patrimony is important and urgent considered the scarce attention that Italy pays to all its composers that improved the cultural knowledge by exporting their creations abroad. Pergolesi Spontini Foundation’s intent is to fill this gap that has not any more reasons to exist in a cultural and social system where national identity, with the EU, should become stronger and stronger to compete in an international field.

Pergolesi Spontini Foundation is situated in this context and the first point of its project is to promote the Italian and European musical heritage with a particular attention to the music and artists from the Marche region. The two composers, Pergolesi and Spontini, both natives of this region, forged new creativity and enriched cultural conscience through their European journeys. With international careers their works were seen beyond the Italian borders, which is why today, they are probably better known abroad than in their homeland.

The Foundation has already explored opportunities for collaborations with other European countries such as the International agreement between the Foundation and the Freie Universität in Berlin, which operates the Arbeitstelle Spontini (Study Centre of Spontini) to increase research on Spontini’s period in the Royal Court of Prussia, and plans with Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin for a four year collaboration. Furthermore the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation has signed agreements with other Italian cultural institutions like Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where in 2001 was represented the first Festival, followed by a greeting of Maestro Riccardo Muti, and Naples’ Conservatory, one of the most important Italian musical archive, where are situated lots of original music sheets of the two Composers.

An opening to the Art, under the sign of the great Italian music.
