Since 2002 the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation, following the path marked by the world greatest scholar of Pergolesi, Francesco Degrada, has conceived a huge program that – besides the annual proposal of the works by Pergolesi during the Festival, with new revisions, when needed- plans also the beginning of the National Edition of his “opera omnia” of certain attribution. This program aims at restoring the whole “corpus” of his musical works, with critic editions corresponding both to the requirements of the scholars approaching the scores in accordance with modern scientific research, and to the needs of the performers wishing to give new birth to the works by Pergolesi in accordance to an adequate performing procedure. A reliable critic edition of all the works by Pergolesi, compiled according to rigorous scientific rules is nowadays more necessary than ever: both because many works by other composers have been too often attributed to Pergolesi, and because the number of his authentic available compositions is small. The National Editions are instituted and supported by the Ministry of Culture to guarantee the protection, enhancement and availability of the spiritual and cultural heritage represented by the works of the most important Italian authors in accordance with rigorous scientific rules. The Foundation has obtained the institution of the National Edition of the works by Giovan Battista Pergolesi with the Ministry decree on June 9th 2009, according to the procedures recommended by the Italian Law December 1st 1997, n°420 and by the circular April 10th 2006, n. 84. The editing plan of the National Edition is divided in 20 books- annually published within the next 10 years- with more than 3000 score pages and 1500 critic pages including the theatre, church, vocal, instrumental and didactic works by the composer from Jesi, together with a thematic catalogue, the librettos of the drama works and other literary texts used by the composer. Each book of the National Edition will include, besides the musical score, a historical introduction in Italian and English, the description of the used sources and the editing problems, the critic commentary about the score, the facsimile reproduction of the original score pages, eventual appendix. To guarantee the best scientific rigour the Foundation has appointed a Scientific Committee composed by eminent scholars who will follow the development of the National Edition: Prof. Renato Di Benedetto- University of Naples “Federico II” (President) Prof. Anna Laura Bellina - University di Padova, Department of Language, Communication and Show Disciplines Prof. Lorenzo Bianconi – University of Bologna, Department of Music and Show Prof. Enrico Careri – University of Naples "Federico II", Department of History Prof. Fabrizio Della Seta – University of Pavia, Faculty of Musicology Prof. Paolo Fabbri – University of Ferrara – Department of Historical Sciences Prof. Philip Gossett - University of Chicago and University of Rome "La Sapienza" Prof. Pierluigi Petrobelli - Director of the National Institute of Studies about Verdi Prof. Claudio Toscani – University of Milan, Department of History of Arts, Music and Show and member of the Pergolesi Scientific Committee of the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation Prof. Prof. Federico Agostinelli – Conservatory of Parma (Treasurer Secretary) The Pergolesi Scientific Committee working on behalf of the Foundation and composed- besides Prof. Di Benedetto and Toscani- by Prof. Francesco Cotticelli of the University of Cagliari, Paologiovanni Maione of the Conservatory of Avellino and Dale Monson of the Pergolesi Research Center at the Brigham Young University – will support the Scientific Committee.
