The Philharmonic Academy of Bologna has signed an agreement with the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation to plan the performance of some Pergolesi’s works (opera and concerts) with the Mozart Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado, using the musical editions revised by the Foundation.

The Mozart Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado will perform music and operas by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (Jesi, January 4th 1710- Pozzuoli, March 16th 1736), whose Third Centenary of the birth will be celebrated in 2010.
On June 22th 2007, in the head office of the Philharmonic Academy in Bologna, it has been signed this agreement between the Foundation and the Academy, whose purpose is to realize a joint project about Pergolesi’s works.

This agreement involves the Mozart Orchestra, born in 2004 as a special project of the Philharmonic Academy, thanks to the contribution of the Foundation “Cassa di Risparmio” of Bologna. Claudio Abbado, to whom its Artistic Direction has been entrusted, has formed the Orchestra inviting instrumentalist of international level and young musicians from all Europe.

The joint activity of these two institutions will start in autumn 2007 to culminate in 2010, year of the Pergolesi Celebrations, and will finish in 2011. It will involve the towns connected to the composer’s life and engaged in the diffusion of its works, in particular his native town of Jesi and Bologna.

For the performance of the Pergolesi’s works the Mozart Orchestra will use the musical scores revised by renowned musicologists in behalf of the Foundation, who has also started the project of a National Edition of Pergolesi’s works.

Since 2001 the Foundation organizes the Pergolesi Spontini Festival and has planned the performance of all Pergolesi’s operas within 2010.

According to this agreement the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation and the Philharmonic Academy could also co-produce operas and oratorios by Pergolesi.
